The annoying sound bugs in Borderlands 3 are spoiling your fun. Many players are reporting they can’t hear any sound especially in Eden 6. Most of the time, completely restarting your Borderlands 3 can fix it. However, it comes back again and again. Is there any permanent fix?

Before getting started

Whenever the sound is not working in Borderlands 3, you can try to save quitting or going to the menu. Restarting the game entirely can always fix the issue.

If there are just no weapon sounds, justswitch weapons and it may go back to normal. Your sound issue might be temporary.

However, if it keeps giving you the silent treatment, you can try the fixes below.

Fix 1: Check your default output device

First, you need to make sure that the default playback device (your headset or speaker) is correctly set, especially when you have multiple audio outputs.

1. Right-click the volume icon on the right corner of your taskbar.
2. Click Sounds.
   
3. In the Playback tab, select your device and click Set Default. Then click Apply to save the changes. (If already default, you can set another device as default and set it back again.)
   
4. Go toAudio Settings of Borderlands 3 and make sure the output audio is set to your default device.
5. Launch your Borderlands 3.
6. Go toSettings > System > Sound , then clickApp volume and device preferences underAdvanced sound options .
   
7. You’ll see all apps currently using audio and their sound levels. Make sure there’s nox symbol forBorderlands 3 and move the volume slider of Borderlands 3 up and down to ensure it’s working properly.

8. Restart your Borderlands 3 to test the sound.

For PS4 users :

Go toSound and Screen >Audio Out Settings and make sure the default output device is correctly set.

Some players find switching from linear PCM to Bitstream (Dolby) resolved the sound issue.

If the sound issue still persists, then head on to the next fix.

Fix 2: Turn off Spatial sound

Many Borderlands players find Spatial sound is always the culprit of their Borderlands 3 no sound issue. To fix it, you need to turn off Spatial sound both in your Windows settings and in-game settings.

1. Select your default audio device and clickProperties .
   
2. Choose theSpatial sound tab. Then selectWindows Sonic for Headphones and clickApply .
   
3. ChooseNone to turn it back off and clickApply again.
   
4. In Borderlands 3, go toSound settings and setSpatial Sound toDisabled .
5. Restart your game and see if this fixes your sound not working issue.

On the contrary, some of the Borderlands players find it fixed their sound problems byturning on the Spatial sounds both in Windows and in-game settings.

If unfortunately, turning off Spatial sounds didn’t help, you can try turning it on instead.

Fix 3: Lower the audio quality

1. Go to thePlayback tab and select your default audio device and clickProperties .

2. Go to theAdvanced tab and select a lower value from the drop-down list. Then clickApply >OK .
   

3. Restart your game and check if the sound is coming back now.

4. If this fix doesn’t work for you, then uncheck bothAllow applications to take exclusive control of this device andGive exclusive mode applications priority .

5. Run your Borderlands 3 again to check your sound issues.

Fix 4: Update the audio driver

Are the audio drivers up-to-date for the sound hardware? Sometimes the drivers are at fault. To fix it, you can update or reinstall the audio driver.

Note: Outdated or corrupt drivers can cause weird computer issues. To improve your computer performance and game experience, it’s recommended to always keep all of your drivers up to date.

There are two ways you can get the right drivers: manually or automatically .

Option 1: Manually

To update your audio driver manually, you may always let Windows find the latest driver for you. However, sometimes Windows think the drivers are already the “latest”, and you’ll need to find the latest and correct driver on the manufacturer’s website and install it into your computer manually.

Note: Ensure to download the latest correct driver that is compatible with your computer operating system.

Before installing the new driver, you’d better right-click the old driver and selectUninstall device and tick the boxDelete the driver software for this device .

Option 2: Automatically

Fix 5: Turn off Social Notification Frequency

If the issue still bugs you after updating your audio driver, then you can try to turn off Social Notification Frequency to reduce input lag. Here is how to do it:

1. Open Borderlands 3 and go to Network & Social.
   
2. Turn offNotification Frequency .
3. Restart your game and test the issue.

Fix 6: Run as administrator

Whenever you bump into game issues, it never hurts to run both your game launcher and Borderlands 3 as administrator. These sound issues might occur if you have limited access to your game files.

1. Right click your game launcher (Epic Games) and selectProperties .
   
2. Go to theCompatibility tab and tick theRun this program as an administrator box. Then clickApply >OK .

3. Navigate to where your Borderlands 3 is installed (C:\Program Files\Epic Games\Borderlands 3).

Note: If you can’t find the executable file, you can run Borderlands 3 and press Ctrl + Shift+ Esc to open Task Manager, then right click your Borderlands 3.exe. and select Open file location .
4. Right-click Borderlands 3.exe. and selectProperties .
5. Tick the boxRun this program in compatibility mode for and selectWindows XP (Service Pack 2) orWindows 7 . Then tickRun this program as an administrator box.
Finally, clickApply >OK to save the changes.

6. Launch your Borderlands 3 to see if the sound issue still persists.

Fix 7: Check the integrity of game files

Verify your Borderlands 3 game files in case any corrupt files prevent the sound from working properly.

1. Go to the Library tab and click the cog icon of Borderlands 3.
   
2. ClickVerify .

3. After verifying your game files, run your Borderlands 3 again and test the issue.

Fix 8: Change your default device to the stereo mix

1. Right-click the volume icon and selectSound .
   
2. Under thePlayback tab, select your default device and clickConfigure .

3. ForAudio channels , selectStereo and clickNext .

4. Check theFront left and right box. Then clickNext .

5. ClickFinish to save changes.
6. Then go to theRecording tab, and selectStereo Mix as default.
   
7. ClickApply .
8. Launch your Borderlands 3 again to test the sound issue.
9. If the issue still persists, you can change the audio channel to5.1 Surround .

Fix 9: Reinstall Borderlands 3

Try as you might, if all these fixes above failed to solve your issue, you can perform a clean reinstall of Borderlands 3 to see if this does the trick.

1. On your keyboard, press theWindows logo key andR at the same time to invoke the Run box.
2. Copy & pasteappwiz.cpl and hitEnter .
   
3. Right-click Borderlands 3 and select Uninstall.

4. Reinstall Borderlands 3 again to see if it works.
