The Modern Warfare series has been out for a couple of years now, yet many players are still struggling with theno sound issue . If you’re one of them, you’ve come to the right place. Here’re some quick fixes for your Modern Warfare audio problem. Try them out and get back to the field right away!

Fix 1: Check your headphone or speaker
When troubleshooting audio problems, the first thing is to check your cable connection. You should check if the cables have worn out, and make sure they’re securely plugged into the right port.
You can also try to plug in the cables again and see if you hear any sound. If possible, you can connect to other devices such as your cellphone or MP3 player for troubleshooting.
Fix 2: Change your default playback device
You’ll have no sound when you set the wrong playback device. You can follow these steps to do a quick check:
- On your keyboard, press theWindows logo key andR at the same time to invoke the Run box. Type or pastemmsys.cpl and pressEnter .
- Check if there’s agreen tick on your desired playback device. If not, select your device and clickSet Default . Then clickOK .
3. Open Modern Warfare and see if your problem has gone away. If the problem is still there,repeat step 1 and select your playback device, then clickProperties .
4. Navigate to theAdvanced tab. Under theDefault Format section, select a different sample rate and bit depth, then clickTest . Repeat this process until you find a format that works with your device. Then clickOK .
5. Launch Modern Warfare and see if you hear any sound.

Fix 3: Run the Windows audio troubleshooter
The Windows audio troubleshooter is a built-in utility that detects and repairs common sound issues automatically. You can follow these steps to use this troubleshooter:
- On your keyboard, press theWindows logo key and typetroubleshoot settings . Then clickTroubleshoot settings .
- ClickAdditional troubleshooters .
3. SelectPlaying Audio and clickRun the troubleshooter .
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to troubleshoot your audio issue.
After running the troubleshooter, you can join a game and see how things go.

Fix 4: Update your audio driver
One of the most common causes of in-game sound issue is thebroken or outdated audio driver . So you should update your audio driver to see it it fixes your problem.
You can update your audio driver manually, by going to the manufacture website of your sound card and search for the latest driver for your exact module. But this takes quite a while. If you don’t have the time, patience or computer skills to update the driver manually, you can do it automatically with Driver Easy .
- Download and install Driver Easy.
- Run Driver Easy, then clickScan Now . Driver Easy will then scan your computer and detect any problem drivers.
- ClickUpdate All to automatically download and install the correct version of_all_ the drivers that are missing or out of date on your system.
(This requires the Pro version – you’ll be prompted to upgrade when you click Update All. If you don’t want to pay for the Pro version, you can still download and install all the drivers you need with the free version; you just have to download them one at a time, and manually install them, the normal Windows way.)

Once you’ve updated your audio driver, restart your computer and see if it fixes your problem.

Fix 5: Install all the Windows updates
There’re many reports that installing system updates fixes the audio issue on Windows, so this could be a potential solution to your sound issue with Modern Warfare.
And it’s quite easy to update too:
- On your keyboard, press theWindows logo key andR at the same time to invoke the Run box. Type or pastecontrol /name Microsoft.WindowsUpdate and hitEnter .
- ClickCheck for updates . It’ll take some time for Windows to search and install system updates.
- Once you’ve installed the updates, restart your computer for it to take full effect.
To install all the system updates, you might need torepeat these steps several times until it prompts that “you’re up to date” when you click Check for updates.
You can now open Modern Warfare and check the in-game audio.

Fix 6: Close conflicting software
Some players reported that they managed to get the sound back by closing programs that have audio output. You can try this method by closing apps such asDiscord ,Skype andChrome , as they might affect the in-game audio.
Fix 7: Change your audio channel
In some cases, output devices with some high-end features (e.g. 5.1 surround sound) might not work so well on your system, so you’ll need to change your audio channel for the audio output. This solution also apply to the case where players have only cinematic music and no sound effects.
Here’s how to do it:
- On the lower-right corner of your desktop, right-click thevolume icon and selectSound .
- Navigate to the Playback tab. Select your default playback device and click Configure .
3. ForAudio channels , selectStereo and clickNext .
4. Check the box next to Front left and right . Then click Next .
5. Click Finish to save the changes.
